Jan Estep, Hot Air Sincerely, 2007, artist book, paperback, perfect bound, two-color, offset printed, 158 pages, 5.5" x 8".
Hot Air Sincerely presents photographic close-ups of hand-embroidered linen text panels. Mixing found and original writing, the phrases tease apart the curious ways we use language to refer to things that are not language. They are organized into a loose narrative that begins with “Hot Air” and ends “Sincerely,” in between playing with words, materiality, and meaning. Examples: "The words on your lips." "Mumbling my words." "You can read me like a book." "The prison house of language." "Speak to me with your eyes." "Words don't do it justice." "Words echo." "Empty speech." "Twiddle, twaddle, twitter, tweeter, twang." This artist book is a companion piece to the original embroidered series of canvases, also titled Hot Air Sincerely.
